Our marine sediment core collections span the globe, with noteworthy collections from coastal New England, the Atlantic basin, the equatorial Pacific, the Southern Ocean, the Marianas, the Mediterranean, the South Pacific Gyre, the Azores Platform, the Gulf of Mexico, the Puerto Rico Trench/Lesser Antilles, and push cores by HOV Alvin from the Mariana Trough.

Browse Dredges

Our rock dredge collection is global in scope, with specific emphasis on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (Knipovitch, Mohns, Kolbeinsey, Reykjanes, Azores, Equatorial, Ascension, Tristan de Cunha, Shona, Discovery, Bouvet), plume-influenced spreading centers in other ocean basins (Gulf of Aden, Easter Microplate/Salas y Gomez Seamounts, Galapagos Spreading Center), and back-arc basins (Mariana Trough, North Fiji Basin, Lau Basin, Manus Basin).

Our extensive collection of human-occupied vehicle (HOV) and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) grab samples includes collections by ROV Hercules and E/V Nautilus in the Mediterranean, the Mid-Cayman Rise, the Lesser Antilles, the western North American Margin, the Revillagigedo Archipelago, the Galápagos Spreading Center, central to western Pacific seamounts, the Samoan hotspot, and Palau. We also house samples from HOVs Alvin and Shinkai 6500, and ROV Jason dives on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (Azores, Oceanographer FZ), the New England Seamounts, the Mid-Cayman Rise, the Mariana Trough and Sumisu RIft, The Izu-Bonin-Mariana fore-arc, the Lau Basin, the Revillagigedo Archipelago, the Tamayo FZ, and much more.

Browse Surface Sediment Grabs - not up yet

We house 700+ samples of surface sediments collected by shipek-style or similar grab devices. These samples derive largely from the western African continental margin, the eastern North American continental margin, and southern Iceland.
