North American B-25 Mitchell bomber, flying near Mount Vesuvius during its last eruption in March 1944

Interpretation

It's now time to interpret what you have seen in the three eruption videos. The purpose of this part of the exercise is to come up with a preliminary interpretation based solely on your own observations of the volcanic processes. These should be simple and concise. Remember, Pliny the Younger included some interpretations in his letters describing the 79 AD eruption of Vesuvius.

Task 2: Interpret Your Observations

In your field notebook write down what you think happened during eruptions 1, 2 and 3. The interpretation should focus on the motions that you observed in each event and the effects that the eruptions had on the surrounding landscape and buildings.
