Fallout Processes

As you have seen from the videos, explosive volcanic eruptions are characterized by a variety of different volcanic processes. In the next few pages you will learn more about those processes through a series of interactive exercises. These are designed to build upon the preliminary hypotheses that you just completed.

One of the most obvious processes of explosive volcanism is the ejection of material high into the atmosphere. As the old saying goes, what goes up must come down. Fallout is the process by which the volcanic material returns to the Earth's surface, much like the fall of rain, snow, or hail.
